Bored out of my mind by MMO's

Seriously I am. It's like logic doesn't apply to game developers anymore, I'm so sick of the way MMO's play, they're either boring grind fests, or they're unimaginative third person shooter wanna-be's. What is up with these games? Can you even really call them games? They're more like...work. And speaking of work, how about these guilds that require their members to be at the keyboard 24/7 doing dungeon/raid runs for gold or some obscure item that everyone else in the friggen game already has?
I'll revist this peice later. Right now I'm too fed up and frustrated to think clearly.

Second Life's Upcoming 6th Birthday

Dusty Linden over at the Second Life Blog has posted an event list on their blog. I'll just post the short version here, you can use the Second life blog Link to get the rest of the story. Tomorrow— June 23, 2009— marks 6 FULL years of Second Life. To celebrate 6, and our passage into year 7, your fellow Residents have been busy for months, planning a 20-Region party around the theme "The Future of Virtual Worlds". Come by tomorrow after 10 am SLT, as they turn on the lights and throw open the doors. Philip Linden will start the event at 10 with a talk at the main stage. And the exhibitors have a lot to show you. See what they think the future will be like! They've created a burned-up meteor called Dallier's Hope with hundreds of exhibits awaiting your exploration, from the hilarious to the deeply thought-provoking. http://tr.im/SL6Bexhibits

New Forums and Profiles

Ok, I've got the forums and the user profiles up and running again, they're different than the default user profiles but don't worry, I had no problem migrating everyone to it. The forum is up but not quite ready still, I've got topics to add and catagories to adjust so everything appears to be orderly. I hope these new features get used, Oh and I also enabled images for profiles so if you want a custom login while you're on the site feel free to upload your favorite avatar image to the site (80x80 is the maximum allowed so don't get cute). And one more thing while I'm at it. The shoutbox is for live chat only. Do not leave spam links or spam the chat unnecessarily or you will be perma-banned from the site. I've already had a few clowns attempt this, and suffice to say, they are no longer able to access grouchygamers.com from any browser or alternate domain. I also added captcha to the registration process to keep out the registration bots. I like to maintain a clean and orderly site and web bots are not conducive to what I want. I will be adding more and more social-network options to my site so keep an eye peeled here for them. Hopefully, I'll be able to enable per-user blogging soon.
